African Safaris

Safaris in Africa are magical. Ask any one that has been on safari and they will smile and tell you spectacular stories. So, how do you know what destination to go to? What camps to stay in? The kind of lodging to choose? That’s the beauty of working with Travel Masters! You don’t have to know those things. We will help you determine the best experience for you. But, be assured, your first safari in Africa will not be your last! You will find opportunities to visit more countries and have more encounters with the people and the animals that make Africa so magical.

Tanzania is also a great East African destination for safaris. They offer a variety of accommodations to meet every budget and every expectation. And, if you are looking for real adventure, Tanzania is home to the famed Mt. Kilimanjaro. There are several routes that can get you to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro. You don’t have to be a mountain climber or have any climbing experience. What you do need to have is the desire to reach the top. With the right desire and the right climbing team, you will have an experience that many will admire and few will share!

Botswana is so unique with a staggering diversity in terrain and an abundance of wildlife. The Okavango River feeds the largest inland delta on the planet, bringing ife to the arid sands of the Kalahari Desert. So, you will get both extremes – from arid desert to flowing rivers and all the glory that each has to offer. All of this water attracts a huge variety of game; impala, kudu, zebra, giraffe, massive herds of elephants, and cats like lion and leopard! Conservation has been a priority in the management of tourism so the only crowds you will see in Botswana are the crowds of animals!

South Africa

South Africa is probably the most famous but the least understood in terms of safari opportunities! When most people think of South Africa, they think of wine, apartheid and “football”. But, South Africa has some of the largest and most spectacular game parks in all of Africa. There are 22 parks in South Africa – the most famous being Kruger National Park. In addition to finding the Safari Big 5 (Rhino, Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Cape Buffalo), you can also find the Big Marine 5 along the coast! The Marine Big 5 are Whales, Great White Sharks, Sea Lions, Penguins and Dolphins. How many other places in the world can you find the Safari Big 5 and the Marine Big 5 in one trip?!

If hearing the grunts of a Silverback Gorilla or watching a baby Gorilla annoy the heck out of his patient mother is not on your bucket list – get a new bucket list! Then go to Rwanda and have your world rocked. The Gorilla population in Rwanda is healthy and well protected with 10 habituated familes. And, your chance of getting up close and personal with the Gorillas is pretty darned good. There are a range of accommodations at the base of the Virunga Mountains – in Volcanoes National Park.

Today’s “safari” was invented in Kenya. “Safari” is a Swahili word meaning journey”. They have had a long time to perfect the safari and they have done an amazing job! The wildlife in Kenya is often remarkably approachable (but, certainly not tame) due to the comprehensive hunting ban that has been in effect for the last 35 years. The animals’ fear of humans is greatly reduced. This allows you to watch wild animals interacting and behaving quite naturally in Kenya.
